Drugs educational programme for children: On My Own Two Feet   “On My Own Two Feet” is an educational package for use with post-primary children aimed at the development of personal and social skills for the prevention of substance abuse. The overall aim of the package is to enable children to develop their ability to take charge of their health and specifically to make conscious and informed decisions about the use of drugs, (legal and illegal) in their lives.

    The aim of this section is to help students develop positive self esteem.
  • Understanding Influences
    The goal of this section is to raise students’ awareness of some of the influences, pressures and needs which affect their decisions. It also aims to clarify information and attitudes to various drugs.
  • Assertive Communication
    The goals of this section are to help young people develop a feeling of being in charge of their lives and of having control over events in their lives.
  • Feelings
    The goals of this section are to raise awareness of feelings, to teach a language that relates to the expression of feelings and to learn appropriate ways of expressing feelings.
  • Decision Making
    The goal of this section is to help young people develop decision-making skills. In this section, attention is given to teaching decision-making skills in the context of situations in which young people have to make decisions about the use of various drugs.
  • Consequences
    The aim of this section is to help students understand the consequences of taking drugs for them and their families.
