Helping pupils celebrate difference, name feelings and build safer ways to manage emotions, All About Me is a primary PSHE and character education module for school staff planning whole-class lessons. It links self-esteem, emotional literacy, empathy, confidence and self-discipline through an assembly outline and staged lesson plans for Reception, Year 2, Year 4 and Year 6.
Planning a primary PSHE unit on identity, feelings and character can be time-consuming, and this booklet gives a clear sequence to build from assembly input into class lessons. The focus is celebrating uniqueness, recognising emotions and helping children express difficult feelings, including anger, in safer and healthier ways.
At the start, staff are given an overview of the module, the rationale behind the lessons and a whole school assembly plan. The assembly ideas use accessible prompts, such as names that are the same or different, and the range of moods pupils may bring into school, to introduce empathy and individuality.
The contents show separate lesson pathways for KS1 and KS2, including Reception, Year 2, Year 4 and Year 6. Repeated lesson themes include All About Me, Understanding Feelings, Showing Our Emotions, What is Character? and a reflective lesson, with Whitney from Wednesbury used as a character link across the module.
Confidence is emphasised in the All About Me and reflection lessons, empathy is connected to understanding feelings and character, and self-discipline is linked with showing emotions and character choices. Primary teachers, PSHE coordinators, SENCOs and inclusion staff could use it for classroom sessions, nurture groups or pastoral work with children who need structured emotional vocabulary.
