Worry coping skills are presented here as simple, child-friendly prompt cards for moments when anxious thoughts feel hard to manage. The cards give children practical ways to pause, use their senses, breathe slowly, write a more hopeful outcome, and picture a place where they feel safe and settled.
When a child is caught up in a worry spiral, it can be difficult for them to remember what might help in the moment. These kids’ anxiety coping cards offer four clear activities that can be read aloud, chosen independently, or used as quick prompts during a calming break.
Children are invited to stop and listen to the sounds around them, creating a simple grounding exercise that brings attention back to the present. The Happy Ending card encourages them to write about a worry while giving the story a positive ending, supporting more balanced and hopeful thinking.
The Take a Breath card uses an easy breathing pattern: breathe in for four seconds, hold for two, then breathe out for six. Favourite Place is an imaginative calming activity, asking children to picture somewhere comfortable and happy, including what they can see, hear and feel there.
These printable worry cards may suit primary-age children who experience anxiety, school worries, bedtime worries, or stressful changes. Parents, school counsellors, pastoral staff and child therapists could keep the cards in a calm corner, coping toolkit, classroom, home routine, or one-to-one support session.
