Parents, foster carers, social workers and primary-school staff can use these children’s needs cards to help younger children talk about what they need to feel safe, cared for and well. The visual cards suit check-ins, child-centred conversations, family support work and classroom activities where children may find it easier to point to a picture than explain their needs in detail.

Clear, child-friendly prompts support conversations about everyday care, safety and wellbeing. Free Children’s Needs Cards presents illustrated cards with a short title and simple explanation, helping children identify needs that are being met as well as needs they may be worried about at home, school or elsewhere.

Topics shown include food, water, sleep, warmth, clothing, washing and hygiene, health care, and help when ill or hurt. Further cards cover a safe home, a comfortable sleeping space, clean surroundings and important everyday items such as toiletries, school supplies and suitable shoes.

The pack also addresses care and stability through cards about someone looking after me, routines, supervision and help learning independence. Adults can print and cut out the cards for a child to sort, choose from, discuss with a trusted adult or use as prompts during a welfare check.

These children’s basic needs flashcards are particularly suited to social workers, family support practitioners, foster carers and teachers working with primary-aged children. They can support direct work sessions, safeguarding conversations, life-story work, nurture groups or gentle discussions about what would make daily life feel safer and more manageable.
