When Children’s Services become involved because they believe a child may be unsafe, parents often need clear, simple information about what might happen next. VoiceAbility-parents brochure 2011 sets out the child protection process for parents with learning difficulties, including key words such as barrister, CAFCASS, care plan, care proceedings, Child Protection Case Conference, judge and local authority.
The booklet covers who can usually make decisions about a child, when Children’s Services may get involved, what happens at a child protection conference, and how a child protection plan is reviewed. It also includes sections on core group meetings, child in need meetings and family group meetings or family conferences, which makes it relevant for early support work as well as formal safeguarding processes.
Families facing urgent safeguarding action can use the booklet to understand terms such as immediate danger, emergency protection order and going to court.
