The Friends and Friendship resource is organised into three parts covering what makes someone a friend, how friendships are made and maintained, and the similarities and differences between online and offline friendships. The materials include ready-to-use activity plans, presentation slides and supporting activity resources for teachers, social workers, family support practitioners and other professionals working with children.
Through the activities, children can explore the qualities they value in friends, think about how their own behaviour affects others, identify ways of managing difficulties or disagreements within friendships, and consider how friendships may change over time. The online friendship activities also provide opportunities to discuss communication, boundaries, trust and staying safe when interacting with others online.
The resources are designed for Second Level, typically associated with children in P5, P6 and P7, although practitioners should consider each child’s developmental stage, understanding and individual circumstances when selecting activities.
English and Gaelic versions of the resources are available below.
Please note: These resources were developed by the RSHP (Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood) resource and are not produced by Social Workers Toolbox. The links below take you to the original materials hosted on the RSHP website. Practitioners should review the resources before use to make sure they are suitable for the children they are supporting.
