When a child is feeling anxious, stressed or overwhelmed, having a simple calm down plan can make it easier to pause and choose what to do next. My Calm Plan is a printable children’s wellbeing worksheet with gentle prompts for identifying feelings, coping strategies, safe places, supportive people and reassuring self-talk.
Parents, carers, primary school staff, counsellors and child support workers are the most likely people to use My Calm Plan with children who need a clear, visual way to build emotional regulation and coping skills. It is especially suited to younger children who prefer drawing, short writing tasks and friendly prompts rather than long explanations.
The worksheet is arranged as a one-page calm plan with numbered sections. Children are invited to notice what stress or overwhelm feels like, list three things that help them feel calm, draw a safe or happy place, and complete a 5 senses grounding activity covering something they can see, touch, hear, smell and taste.
Other prompts focus on positive self-talk, people who help the child feel calm and safe, practical steps for asking for help, and a kind reminder they want to remember. A small calm toolkit area encourages the child to draw or write favourite calming tools, making it useful for anxiety support, nurture work, emotional literacy lessons or therapeutic check-ins.
The black-and-white design makes it easy to print for home, school or sessions, and the drawing spaces can help children express thoughts that may be hard to say out loud. It could be completed alongside an adult, added to a wellbeing folder, kept in a calm corner, or revisited after a difficult moment to strengthen coping strategies over time.
