My Confidence Scale Printable for Children and Teens

Five-point My Confidence Scale chart showing levels from very shy and unable to try to super confident and able to lead and help others.

When a child says they cannot try, freezes before a task, or needs help putting their confidence into words, this printable confidence scale gives them a simple way to show where they are. The page uses a 1 to 5 rating system, moving from very shy and unable to try, through feeling nervous and needing help, to being confident enough to do it alone and super confident enough to lead or help others.

The scale is especially suited to primary-age children, younger teens who prefer visual prompts, and children with additional needs who benefit from clear emotional literacy tools. Social workers, family support workers, school staff, therapists and parents could use it as a confidence check-in, self-esteem prompt, resilience activity or feelings scale during one-to-one work.

Each level includes child-friendly wording: “I can’t try”, “I feel nervous”, “I can do it with help”, “I can do it on my own”, and “I can lead and help others”. These short statements make it easy to connect confidence with practical next steps, such as offering support, planning practice, celebrating independence, or encouraging a child to notice progress over time.

In real use, it could be printed and kept in a classroom, therapy room, social work toolkit or home learning space. A child might point to a number before starting homework, attending a new group, speaking in class, trying a coping skill, or practising something they find difficult, then return to the scale afterwards to reflect on any change.

The format works well as a quick confidence rating, self-belief scale, growth mindset prompt or visual self-assessment tool without needing lots of writing. Created by Edita Stiborova, it is a straightforward one-page aid for encouraging children to notice and communicate their confidence level.
