My Stress Scale Printable for Children and Teenagers

Colourful My Stress Scale poster showing a 1 to 5 scale for children, from relaxed to need help now, with cartoon characters for each stress level.

A five-point stress scale forms the main framework, moving from 1 “Relaxed” through to 5 “Need Help Now”. Each level is paired with clear wording and expressive cartoon illustrations, making it easier for kids, children and teenagers to identify whether they are calm, a little stressed, feeling pressure, overwhelmed or needing immediate support.

The printable is especially suited to children and young people who find it hard to explain feelings verbally, including those who benefit from visual prompts, simple emotional language or quick regulation tools. It may be useful for social workers, school staff, counsellors, pastoral workers, parents and carers who want a child-friendly stress thermometer, anxiety scale or feelings check-in sheet.

In practice, the scale can be used at the start of a session, during a difficult conversation, after an incident, before homework, or as part of a calm corner or wellbeing display. A child can point to a number, circle it, place a marker on it, or use it as a prompt to talk about what has moved them up or down the scale.

The wording keeps the focus on stress levels rather than expecting a detailed explanation straight away, which can be helpful when a young person is already under pressure. The final level, “Need Help Now”, gives a clear signal that an adult response is needed, supporting safer communication in schools, family support work, therapy and direct work with children.

The PDF contains a colourful one-page printable stress rating scale, with an additional information page. Created by Edita Stiborova.
