Encourage children and teenagers to talk about everyday life with a simple roll-and-answer activity that gives conversations a clear, playful starting point. My World Roll & Talk Dice is useful for one-to-one support, family work, mentoring and pastoral sessions where young people may find direct questions difficult.
Starting a meaningful conversation can be difficult when a child or teen is unsure what to say, worried about giving a wrong answer, or reluctant to discuss home and school. This printable dice conversation game provides 36 prompts about the young person’s world, selected by rolling two dice.
One die chooses a column and the other chooses a row, leading to questions such as who is important in their life, what home is like, who they spend time with, what they do after school, and places they visit regularly. Prompts also explore clubs, hobbies, online activities, responsibilities, worries, hopes and recent changes.
The activity can help social workers, school pastoral staff, youth workers, counsellors and foster carers build rapport while learning about a child’s relationships, routines, strengths and support network. It may also suit parents and carers wanting a relaxed family conversation with children or teenagers.
Print the board and use ordinary dice during a check-in, home visit, mentoring meeting or therapeutic play session. Participants can take turns rolling, skip any question they do not wish to answer, and use follow-up questions to explore subjects such as difficult relationships, safety concerns, independence and what they would like to change.
