Offer children a simple daily way to notice what feels good, supportive or enjoyable during October. This autumn gratitude calendar gives families, primary school staff and child practitioners 31 short prompts that can spark conversations, journalling, drawing or a calm check-in at the end of each day.
Everyday reflection can be easier for children when they have one clear question to answer. The October gratitude challenge is arranged as a 31-day calendar, with prompts such as what made you smile, who was kind to you, what food you are glad exists and what helps you rest and relax.
Questions cover relationships, home, school, nature, play, learning, senses and personal strengths. Children are invited to think about people they can count on, something great about themselves, a happy memory, a favourite book or story, and an everyday thing they would really miss.
Parents and carers can print the calendar for a fridge, bedroom wall or family noticeboard, choosing one prompt each day. It also suits teachers supporting a class gratitude activity, morning meeting or PSHE-style discussion, particularly with younger children who benefit from brief, concrete questions.
School counsellors, social workers and therapeutic practitioners may find it useful as a low-pressure conversation starter with children. Responses can be spoken, written in a gratitude journal, added to a drawing, or shared with a trusted adult, helping children practise noticing positive moments throughout the month.
