6 session feelings programme for children affected by domestic abuse

The 6 session Feelings Programme is a structured guide designed to help children and young people who have been affected by domestic abuse develop a better understanding of their emotions and learn appropriate ways to express and manage them. The programme consists of various activities and exercises that aim to increase the child’s awareness and vocabulary related to their feelings, validate their emotions, and provide them with safe strategies for expression.

Each session lasts approximately 60 minutes, and additional activities are provided as options to customise the programme based on the child’s specific needs. The programme emphasises the key messages of recognizing and acknowledging feelings, building a vocabulary to describe emotions, accepting the validity of different and strong feelings, and promoting safe ways of expressing emotions.

By engaging in this programme, children and young people affected by domestic abuse can gain a better understanding of their emotions, learn to express themselves in healthier ways, and develop essential skills for emotional regulation and well-being.
